The Art in Arts Administration
I am an artist, and I am also an arts administrator. My passions and my life revolve around theatre and my work does as well. Without arts administrators, arts companies would fail to exist and thrive. In arts administration, I spend much of my time organizing and planning. I have perfected my skills in Microsoft Office programs and continue to grow in other programs as well. I also work hard to make sure I am well-versed in the industry I am working in. Much of my education has been spent focused on theatre so I could gain a general knowledge of as much of the technical and performance side as possible before being in charge of them all. My education has shaped me into a well-rounded individual ready to take on the theatre world. When I am not working in an administrative office, I often work in other theatre fields in order to stay up to date with my craft. Many of my hobbies that allow me to continue to stay in touch with theatre are costume design and construction, and stage management. If I am ever not sitting at a desk, rest assured I can be found working in another shop or with another group of people in my industry. Arts administration is also an art, because to be a good leader and to lead artists requires a skill of its own.Since I was born, I have been a leader and have always been ready to take charge. I have always wanted a stable career in leadership, but also a way to stay involved in the arts. Working in arts administration allows me to do exactly that. I get to stay fully absorbed in theatre while handling all of the business and logistical aspects of the company. I thrive from leadership, but I also thrive from art, so arts administration allows me to have the best of both worlds that I have always wanted and dreamed for.
